President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has extended his working vacation by a few days and is expected to return to Nigeria at the weekend, the Presidency said on Monday.
Tinubu departed Nigeria on August 30 for London, where he began the vacation before moving to Paris, France, after spending about a week in the United Kingdom.
During his stay in Paris, the President held meetings with French President Emmanuel Macron and businessman Vincent Bolloré, whose business interests include Canal+, MultiChoice and Universal Music Group.
Despite being away from Nigeria, Tinubu has continued to receive updates on developments at home and direct government affairs, according to the Presidency.
Among the matters he has addressed was the order for an independent panel to investigate the deaths of 37 illegal miners in Minna following their detention by officials of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.
The President has also delegated Vice President Kashim Shettima to represent him at several official engagements during his absence.
Shettima departed Abuja on September 20 for New York to attend the 81st United Nations General Assembly, where he is representing the President and is expected to deliver Nigeria's national statement.
With the Vice President away, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, will continue to represent the President at official events.
The Presidency also highlighted political consultations being led by the Director-General of the Presidential Campaign Council, Senator Abubakar Yari, who has been meeting with prominent traditional rulers alongside other senior party figures.
The statement also rejected criticism from former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and a United States-based lobbying firm over Tinubu's decision not to attend the UN General Assembly in person.
The Presidency described the claims surrounding the President's absence from the UN gathering as irresponsible.
