Former President Obasanjo’s Son Shot in Baza

Adeboye Obasanjo son of Nigeria’s former President, Olusegun Obasanjo who is also a Lieutenant Colonel in the Nigerian army was shot in an attack by Boko Haram in Baza in Adamawa State on Monday.

The incident occurred when the terrorists attacked a platoon led by Obasanjo. According to reports, 24 soldiers in the platoon were killed, while Obasanjo, an army engineer at the 3rd Division, Jos, Plateau State sustained gunshot wounds to the leg.

At the time of the incident, Major Gen JS Zaruwa, Colonel Victor Ebhaleme who serves as the Brigade Commander of the 23rd Army Brigade in Yola and Lieutenant Agwu were all together advancing towards Michika when Boko Haram fighters ambushed them and unleashed the deadly attack on the soldiers.

According to reports, the army also lost an armoured tank to the militants.

The ambush follows an earlier victory on Sunday by the Nigerian army against the insurgents at Buratai is a lonely town in Biu Local Government area of Borno State, a distance of over 200 kilometres from the state capital, Maiduguri.

More than 20 suspected members of sect were killed in the battle. The offence had started after the terrorists laid siege to the residence of the former Commander, Niger-Delta Special Task Force, Major General Tukur Buratai, an indigene of the town.

According to an eyewitness, over 50 gunmen invaded the town on motorcycles and Hilux Vans, heading directly for the residence of the army general and the primary school, which they succeeded in razing.

 “The soldiers, guarding the residence of the former task force commander, in collaboration with their colleagues from Biu Military Barrack and some members of the vigilance group, repelled the attackers, killing over 20 members of the sect,” Idi Buratai a resident and eyewitness of the incident told newsmen.
