PDP’s NWC Members Ignore Tukur, Shun Meeting

More News Archive

Members of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Monday absented themselves from an emergency meeting convened by Chairman of the party, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur.

Only three members — National Secretary, Professor Adewale Oladipo; National Auditor, Adewole Adeyanju; and National Treasurer, Alhaji Bala Buhari — were in attendance.

Those absent at the meeting were actually within the party secretariat, yet they stayed back in their offices. The implication was that with just four NWC members in all, the meeting could not form a quorum.

An angry Tukur was seen at about 2pm storming out of the meeting venue into his official car, from where he was driven out of the secretariat.

The absence of Deputy National Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus — an ally of President Goodluck Jonathan — at the meeting is believed to be an indication that the president may have withdrawn his support for the embattled chairman.

However, in an interaction with journalists after Tukur’s departure, National Publicity Secretary of the party, Chief Olisa Metuh evaded questions on the subject, saying he had only come to felicitate with the journalists on the New Year and was therefore unaware of the development.
